This eatery captures the spirit of traditional Italian dining, combining classic dishes with a warm, inviting atmosphere that draws both locals and travelers eager to experience authentic flavors.

The restaurant’s standout offerings showcase the best of Roman culinary heritage. Their Tonnarello Cacio e Pepe is a must-try—simple yet profoundly flavorful, featuring perfectly cooked pasta tossed with pecorino cheese and black pepper, delivering a rich and comforting bite. The Meatballs Cacio e Pepe Beat Cheese brings a creative twist that appeals to those seeking familiar tastes with a bold touch. For dessert, the Tiramisu and Panna Cotta serve as excellent conclusions, balancing sweetness and texture with finesse.

Ambiance plays a significant role in the experience at Tonnarello Paglia. The restaurant’s location in a lively neighborhood adds charm, offering a genuine Roman backdrop to your meal. Despite the often crowded tables and long lines, the staff remains attentive and friendly, contributing to the overall enjoyment and making guests feel valued. This level of service, alongside the well-coordinated flow even during busy times, reflects the establishment’s dedication to hospitality.

The menu is thoughtfully crafted to appeal to a broad audience—from traditionalists drawn to staples like Buffalo Mozzarella Caprese and Coda Alla Vaccinara Con Pure, to those eager to explore less common Roman delicacies like Cartoccio di Calamari Dorati and Pollo Alla Romana. This diversity speaks to tourists and locals alike, creating a space where authenticity meets accessibility.

While most patrons laud the rapid service and consistently delicious food, experiences vary slightly. Some guests mention minor inconsistencies, particularly with freshness or texture, indicating that even celebrated spots can have occasional off moments. Nonetheless, the overwhelming consensus highlights the quality of both cuisine and atmosphere as reasons to visit.

In summary, Tonnarello Paglia embodies the essence of Roman dining—robust flavors, convivial surroundings, and attentive service. It is well suited for those seeking an authentic culinary journey through Rome, set in a vibrant locale that pulses with the city’s daily rhythm. Easy 5 stars in all aspects, the place is located in a very cozy area, the staff is very friendly, the prices are average, not too expensive. And the food, is very very delicious. Although the place was super crowded, the food came very quickly and the waiters were attentive to our needs.

An excellent restaurant that truly lives up to its incredible reputation — over 89,000 reviews and we can see why. We didn’t regret our choice for a second. The food was delicious, the service was outstanding, and surprisingly, it wasn’t expensive at all. If our trip wasn’t coming to an end, we would definitely go back. Highly recommended!

Very good. The staff was super friendly. We waited about 25 minutes, but the line moved quick and was organized. Maybe not the best pasta we had in Italy, but the ambiance was great and the tiramisu was delicious!! The meatball was also very good.

I had high expectations because of the rating and what friends told me about it and they have been more than fully met. It was an amazing price worthy experience. The waiters are really kind and the food exceptional, they have something for every taste! Don’t think too much and go! You may have to wait a few minutes to get a seat (which shows how good they are) so just be aware of that. Nonetheless, just go and you won’t be disappointed!

Like many visitors to Rome, we wanted a great Italian dining experience—who doesn’t? We found this restaurant while exploring. The long line outside caught our eye right away. With an average rating of 4.7 stars, we figured it must be something special, so we decided to give it a try. Once inside, we were greeted by a cozy atmosphere and exceptional service. Brian, our server, truly stood out — warm, attentive, and clearly passionate about food. He made us feel welcome and added a personal touch that we really appreciated. However, when it came to the food itself, we were a bit disappointed. Some dishes were greasy, but not in a tasty olive oil way. Instead, the grease masked the ingredients. The vegetables were mushy and not fresh. The pasta also missed the creamy, balanced flavour we wanted. For a place with such high reviews and a long wait, we expected more. All in all, while the ambiance and service were excellent, the food didn’t quite meet our expectations. It’s not a bad place by any means, but for us, it just didn’t live up to the hype, and probably wasn’t worth the lineup.

Warm, Welcoming, and Worth the Hype We had a fantastic dinner at Tonnarello! From start to finish, everything about the experience was smooth, welcoming, and enjoyable. When we arrived, there was a line outside, and we were told the wait would be about 25 minutes but we were pleasantly surprised to be seated in under 10. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, even with how busy the place was. All the servers were genuinely kind, attentive, and efficient. They made sure we had everything we needed without ever making us feel rushed. The food was very good, flavorful, well-prepared, and served quickly despite the crowd. It’s clear they’ve got things running like a well-oiled machine, and yet it still feels personal and laid-back. Highly recommend if you're in Trastevere and want a classic Roman meal with great service and a welcoming vibe. Would absolutely come back!

Excellent food. We did not have a reservation and had to wait. But the line moved very quickly. They had 2 lines: one for group of 2 and other for larger groups. We were 4 of us and got a table with 5 minutes for lunch. Try the pesto pasta. Also, the focaccia was the best!!

I had an absolutely fantastic meal here! The food was very good, with every dish exceeding expectations. What really made the evening special, though, was the excellent service. Yours server, Benedetta, was especially helpful and went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. Highly recommend!
